Today we had our second meeting of Stage Two. We filled out the 'Matching Considerations' form, the one where you have to tick 'Would Accept', 'Would Not Accept' or 'Would Consider' for a range of family history issues, medical conditions, child's current and anticipated functioning, contact issues etc.
We weren't expecting to do this today so we hadn't discussed the questions with each other beforehand, this was good though as we could give our immediate honest answers, we agreed on nearly all of our answers, a lot being 'Would Discuss' as everything is so situation based. These are just labels and I would rather consider my potential children based on personalities, eye sparkle and cheeky grin! The only one we were stumped on was FAS, mainly because we need to do more research to gain a better understanding.
The next thing we discussed was that question they love - "It's the middle of the night and theres an emergency, you need to take Mr K to the hospital, who are you going to call to look after the child?" Now both us and the SW agreed that this is such a hard one to answer as it depends on the situation (not to mention that I don't drive so Mr K said He'd probably just call an ambulance or get a taxi!, also we all agreed that with a young little one it would be preferable that we took them with us...) but it is something we need an answer to as it is a favourite Panel question, gulp! If my Mum lived nearby this would not be a problem, she would drop anything to come and help me out, alas, she lives 5 hrs away, so It's down to our friends, who of course would help us out any way they could but the "middle of the night" bit makes me feel incredibly guilty at the thought of ringing any of them! Luckily I have a great friend only 2 miles away who is extremely supportive...but still, middle of the night!? I better start doing lots of good deeds to get my Karma up to scratch! It's all very hypothetical but it is the sort of question that makes me feel vulnerable at not having family nearby. I've no doubt we'll manage though, we're pretty good at that.
After my wobble earlier I feel renewed and excited, I think I just want us to hurry up and be a family.
